GREAT RESORT DEALS
There was free golf ... now it is only $30 per round at the lovely Porpoise Bay Golf and Country Club (formerly the Sechelt Golf and Country Club) on the Sunshine Coast after Sechelt District took over the course last week.
The District sent the bailiff in to lock the doors and change the locks after the operator fell $191,000 behind in lease payments to the District, which owns the land.
Now a new operator is being sought for the 18-hole facility.
If you are looking to buy a B.C. resort this year, there is no shortage of properties for sale; many of them also in a financial bind. Some have prices slashed in half and all are open to offers.
18-hole Tower Ranch Golf Resort in Kelowna
Opened in 2008 and designed by Thomas McBroom, it is zoned for 580 residential units overlooking Kelowna and its lake. The Tower went into receivership last year. MNP Ltd, Vancouver is the receiver and is trying to close a sale by Feb. 15.
Colliers International has it listed, with the original price slashed from $21.5 million to $14.5 million.
More resort properties for sale:
Saratoga Beach Golf Course on Vancouver Island just south of Campbell River is being offered under a court-ordered sale.
It includes a 9-hole executive course with 37 acres of development potential close to beaches/listed for $1.49 million.
OTHER RESORT DEALS
Manning Park Resort near Hope, B.C., is also in receivership and up for sale.
Assets include nordic and downhill skiing facilities, a lodge and chalets and a pub/bistro.
Tofino waterfront resorts on the market: the 40-unit Clayoquot Orca Resort near Chesterman beach, listed under a court ordered sale at $2.95 million; and the 13-unit Duffin Cove Resort, at $2.35 million
Aviawest resorts is facing $97 million in debts on five B.C. resort projects and is under court protection until March 29.
Aviawest owns the flagship Parkside Resort and Spa property in Victoria.
Pinnacle Lodge at Sun Peaks Ski Resort near Kamloops; the Water's Edge Resort in Ucluelet; the Pacific Shores Resort and Spa at Parksville.
