  • Map of East/West Vancouver

BC, Lower MainlandMarpole, one of the city's earliest settled areas, is one of 23 communities in Vancouver. It stretches from Angus Drive to Ontario Street, and from 57th Avenue to the North Arm of the Fraser River. These boundaries are defined by the city for planning and administrative purposes and may not accurately reflect smaller historical neighbourhoods.

Marpole has a mix of housing types suitable for a range of incomes and household types. The area north of 70th Avenue is primarily single-family homes and duplexes while the area south to Southwest Marine Drive is zoned for apartments.

    People of Marpole
Marpole's total population has increased 7.4% since 1971. As the community has grown, its composition has also changed. Significant trends emerged in the 1980s in this community which had traditionally attracted a large number of families.

Changes in the composition of the community affect the demand for housing, health care and community facilities such as schools, recreation centres and parks.

    Parks

Fifteen hectares of parkland are distributed throughout Marpole with most residents only a few blocks (800 metres) from one of the area's 8 parks. Marpole has 0.77 hectares of parkland per 1,000 persons as compared to the city average of 1. 12.

Winona Park (Yukon Street and 59th Avenue) A popular park for field sports, Winona Park gently slopes toward the south with views over the Fraser River and south to Richmond.

Marpole Park (Cartier Street and 72nd Avenue) Upcoming renovations to the children's play equipment will be guided by resident suggestions concerning safety and the retention of green space.

William Mackie Park (Southwest Marine Drive and 71st Avenue) The playground equipment and picnic table in Marpole's newest park are completely accessible to the disabled and mothers with strollers -- a priority of area residents participating in design and layout discussions.

    Schools
There are 5 elementary schools (kindergarten to grade 7) and Churchill Secondary School.
