Kensington-Cedar
Cottage, in the heart of the eastside, is one of 23 communities
in Vancouver. It is stretches from Clark Drive and Fraser
Street to Nanaimo Street, and from Broadway to
41st Avenue. These boundaries are defined by the city for planning
and administrative purposes and may not accurately reflect smaller historical
neighbourhoods.
Kensington-Cedar
Cottage enjoys some of the best views in Vancouver of the North
Shore mountains and the downtown skyline. A diverse community, residents
of Kensington-Cedar Cottage contribute a rich range of cultural, ethnic,
and religious influences to Vancouver.

Kensington-Cedar cottage's population has increased modestly. As was
the case in many other city areas, two significant trends emerged in the
1980s in this neighbourhood which has traditionally been popular with families
which changed the population distribution. Such changes in the age composition
of the community affect the demand for housing, health care and community
facilities such as schools, recreation centres and parks.
Housing in
Kensington-Cedar Cottage consists mostly of single-family dwellings (81.8%
of all dwellings). City wide, single-family dwellings represent 44% of the
total stock. Styles range from turn-of-the-century heritage homes to the
small stucco bungalows on small lots from the 1920s.
Parks
Approximately 50 hectares of park space are distributed throughout Kensington-Cedar
Cottage with most residents only 800 metres or a comfortable walking
distance from one of the neighbourhood's 11 parks. Kensington-Cedar Cottage
has 1.26 hectares of park land per 1,000 persons, which is slightly greater
than the city average of 1.12 hectares per 1,000 persons.

located at Commercial & Woodland Drives, 14th-15th Avenues.
John Hendry Park located at 13th & 19th Avenues, Victoria & Templeton
Drives. Kensington Park located at 33rd Avenue, Dumfries & Knight
Streets.
